When trying to make changes to our eating, the trap most of us fall into (and most traditional diets too!) is the belief food is only used to nourish our bodies and for no other reason. Going on diets which are nutritionally sound, but which neglect to consider how we use food for comfort, socialisation, boredom, stress, or celebration is the a key pitfall for about 70% of people.
If we usually use food to help us cope, then that food is taken away, what do we do instead? Have we got a plan for that?
That is where traditional diets fail because they do not tend to consider or prepare people for the range of reasons why we actually eat.
When was the last time you ate because you were hungry?
If we know the range of reasons why we eat, and tune into these, it opens us up to the possibility that there might be other things we can do in certain situations, other than eating.
Eating for reasons other than hunger is totally normal, by the way. Eating is a big part of our culture, for celebrations, fixing problems, offering friendship and far far more. This is not problematic, in itself. There is only ever a need to have a good look at our eating, and make some changes, if this is something that is causing us to worry about the long-term health consequences of our “non-hunger” eating.
This quiz will help you to identify the trends in your own eating, which may be leading you to eat when you are not hungry. Once you have filled in the form, Wendy will analyse your answers and send you a report, which will describe your eating style and suggest a few simple changes you make when you are ready.
